The Website Design Process In

5-steps

Although the website design process includes many individual steps and details, the general development process can be broken into 5 distinct phases:

Phase 1 : Define the Project

Define

Good Web design starts with usability and content. It's important to layout in advance what the goals are in relation to the client/user and to understand what is needed in the final outcome. You'll want have a general idea of what content/structure you are looking for in your site, and the message that your are trying to communicate. By knowing the goals of your website, we can better develop and design a great representation of your business!

Phase 2 : Design Process

Design

In the design phase, the look and feel (commonly referred to as "the skin") is established. In addition to the overall website brand, we will define the general navigational structure of your website. Our professional graphic artist will lay out your website based on your logo, marketing materials, and your input. You will then have the opportunity to make any revisions until you're satisfied with your design. During this phase we will strive to ensure that:

• Your site reflects your business and image.
• Your site is tailored to your market.
• Your site is thoroughly planned out.
• Your site is exciting, interactive, informative and uniquely individual.
• Your site is represented in a professional and considerate manner.

To help you begin thinking about the essential design elements, take a moment to fill out our designers Project Definition form. At the completion of the Web design phase we will have a "blue print" that includes a picture or two that will closely resemble the finished site. This graphic design will help the programmers translate the creative site into a functional site.

Phase 3 : Build

Build

In the build phase, your site is transformed from graphic concept to functional site. All of the technical elements of your unique website design are programmed during this phase; menu structures are created and pages are set up incorporating your look and feel from the design phase. Once the structure of the website has been programmed, our team will populate the websites content. During the website build phase, Foremost Media will provide a private link to the development site so that interested parties at your company can watch us build the site in real time and provide feedback.

Phase 4 : Testing

Testing

When the build phase of your site is completed, Foremost Media will test the site in a wide variety of browsers and different monitor sizes to make sure it works well on different operating systems and platforms. Your company's staff will also have the opportunity to test the public side of the website and test drive the admin section. In the testing phase, the goal is to make sure any bugs that may arise have been worked out, that the site development meets your expectations, and the website is ready to be launched to the world.

Phase 5 : Launch

Launch

Once you are satisfied with the website and have approved the launch of the new site, our hosting team will work with your IT department to edit DNS and Mail records to place the site in it's full and completed form live to the outside world.

The Design Process

Each page of your website should have a call to action. Let that visitor know exactly what you want them to do after reading your page. Make the call to action clear and precise leaving little question in the visitors mind what their next step should be.

Calls to action can vary from page to page.  On the Home page of your site you may want to try and get visitors to your Products pages so they can learn more about what you offer.  On the Products or Services page you may want to try and get them to add items to their shopping cart or contact your company to request a quote.

When you add pages to your site, make sure you know what your call to action should be for each page.  If you don't know what you want your visitors to do, how will they know?
