In this brief tutorial we're going to show you how to set up discounts within the discounts settings in nopCommerce.

0:10
If you are logged into the website, you go to your side menu, expand promotions, and click on discounts. That's going to show you everything you currently have available in there. You can expand and you can search by coupon codes, discount names, so forth, various discount types, starting end dates as well. You can sort those if you start having a pretty hefty list. We have a couple examples in here on the nopCommerce demo site. Basically we're just going to open one of these and walk you through. You can see how the settings work.

0:50
We're going to expand here to the advanced settings so you can see everything. We want to name your discount something that's going to be memorable so you know what it's for. That is required. There's a little asterisk here on the far right side to denote that. Then you have various discount types. We have to assign it to order total, assign to products, assign to categories, assign to manufacturers, assign to shipping, and assign to order subtotal. Those are the items that are available for options within the Core Nop discount functionality that's built in. There are plugins out there if you need something more robust that's more complicated. This is what's available for a majority of clients. It's probably adequate. You're going to have a Black Friday sale or something of that nature.

1:42
You're going to select your discount type. There's the ability to use a percentage. You can also do a flat discount. If you want to give a $5 discount off the order total or something, you can just set that $5 there. You can also do your percentages and then also do a max discount amount if you want to you know not give more than you know $50 off or whatever if you're if you have larger more expensive products so you can set that max discount as well.

2:20
You also have whether or not it requires a coupon code so if that's checked they're gonna have to enter in some sort of coupon code if it's unchecked it'll just be active and it'll apply to whatever you have it set to. So you can have that coupon code maybe it's Black Friday we'll stick with that theme and then you will have this URL so if you are doing an email blast and you wish to put that coupon code in there so that it automatically gets carried over to the site when they go to the site from your email blast you can copy that URL that is there that will contain your coupon And then you also have your start and end dates that you can set. So you can get that discount set up ahead of whenever you want it to be available. And then you can also set that end date so it only runs for a certain amount of time.

3:10
There's also the ability to check whether or not it is cumulative with other discounts. And then there are various discount limitations. So unlimited is probably the most common. If you want somebody to come back and place as many orders, they want to get 20% off each time, you can set it to unlimited.

3:28
End times only. If you want people to, you just want the first 10 people to respond, your email blast, you can set the number of times only that you want it to be sent or be used. And so that way it's going to be kind of, you know, maybe some really great promo. First ten to respond and use the code gets whatever. And then you also have end times per customer. So you could potentially have it. So a customer gets to use that code one time or, you know, 10 times or whatever.

4:05
So, and then there's also the field there for admin comments. Like if you want anything for your information in terms of that discount. So when you're creating that discount, you're going to have to fill in the top portion first and save. You want to do save, continue, edit, because otherwise you're going to pop back out to the list. If you do save, continue, edit, and then you can come in and you can add any requirements.

4:30
So there's requirement types like the requirement group or must be assigned a customer role. So you can set various requirements. So this site just has the core roles, but say you have something you want to give to distributors. You have a distributor role. You can select that role and then that discount will require whoever uses it that they have that distributor role applied to their customer account.

4:57
So this is where you start pairing it down a little bit, then once it gets used on the site; usage history is going to display whatever orders it was used on. So you can basically go back and see how successful that promotion, that discount was for you.

5:16
That is a quick overview on how to set up discounts in nopCommerce.
