DESCRIPTION:
WooCommerce is a Wordpress plugin that provides e-commerce functionality. The functions include a shopping cart, defining payment processing and shipping. WooCommerce has many plugins that can be installed for more specialized functionality.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Creating a new product
- Go to Products > Add New
- For simple products without using any builder such as Divi, fill in the product name and description in the standard Wordpress editor
- Complete the Product data such as General (pricing), Inventory, Shipping, etc
- Complete the short description if your site is rendering a short description (Note: view an existing product to see if that info is completed)
- Add Product image (right hand column)
- Add Product gallery if in use (again view existing product)
- Add Product category(ies) as appropriate
- Publish product via button in upper right corner
- For adding content to products using a page builder such as Divi, click the purple “Use the Divi Builder” button
- Update the content by clicking on the gear icons on the gray module boxes to edit on the back end saving changes by clicking the light green checkmark button when finished
- Alternatively, click on the “Build On The Front End” button to view the content as you would being a site visitor. (Note: For instructions on how to edit in Divi, view our Divi tutorial)
- Click “Exit Visual Builder” in top menu and choose the save option
Editing an existing product
- Go to Products > All Products
- Hover the name of the product you want to edit and click view
- Make changes via standard Wordpress editor or installed page builder
- Note: if you see “Divi” next to the name when viewing full page list, choose the builder option rather than standard Wordpress editor
- Edit pricing, shipping etc via the Product data section as shown in the image noted for adding new products above
- Save changes via button in upper right corner or by choosing to exit visual builder (if using Divi)
Adding a new category
- Go to Products > Categories
- Add new product name on the field left of the list of existing categories
- Slug is the URL friendly version of the page name and auto generated if not created
- Select Parent category to create subcategories
- Add description, display type and thumbnail (view existing category to see if they’re needed)
- Click “Add new category”
Editing an existing category
- Go to Products > Categories
- Hover the name of the category you wish to edit
- Select edit
- Make changes as needed
- Scroll to bottom of information and choose “Update”
Viewing and processing orders
Orders are created when a customer completes the checkout process, and they are visible to users with Admin and Shop Manager roles only.
- Go to WooCommerce > Orders
- To view a specific order, you can click on the order which appears as “#ordernumber customer name” to view full order details.
- The order status field is located under the General heading on the left below the date order was placed. Shipping address can be modified by clicking on the pencil icon to the right of that address. You can perform actions from the widgets on the right side of the order details (send order email, take order actions, view order notes, etc)
- For a brief preview of the order, click the eye icon. In that pop-up, you can update order status and click on Edit as needed
- Hover order statuses to view details regarding the status
