DESCRIPTION:
Yoast SEO is one of the most commonly used SEO plugins for WordPress. It provides functionality to optimize your website for search engines. One of the features that we take advantage of is the ability to optimize the meta description and title tag. You can also utilize the content analysis and readability scores as well. We’re going to focus on the basics that are important for basic good SEO practices.
How to Add or Edit Meta Titles and Descriptions
- Go to Pages > All Page
- Hover the name of the page you wish to edit and click on Edit link under the page name

Scroll down below the editor to the Yoast SEO section
- Expand the accordion for “Search appearance”

From here you can see how the SEO Title is being generated, what the slug (page URL) is, and meta description
- SEO Title - By default, there are tokens to set the SEO title. In most cases, this is sufficient. You can choose to add further variables.
- Meta Description - A meta description tag is an HTML element that provides a short summary of a webpage. The meta description is the text shown under the page title in the search results.
- Under the Search appearance accordion is the SEO analysis where it will make recommendations for improvement.

The rating for the readability analysis and SEO analysis are located in the right side bar as well.

If you have a page you do not wish to show in search results, expand the Advanced accordion and select no in the dropdown below “Allow search engines to show this page…”
