There is a large talent pool of creatives in southeast Wisconsin, many of whom are unaware of one another. To give these professionals a chance to meet and mingle, Foremost Media will be hosting a Janesville Area Freelancers Conference on March 1, 2023.
The event is free and will include refreshments. It’s an opportunity for freelancers in the Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, and Public Relations industries to network, get to know each other, and share ideas.
“The idea was born out of a conversation I had with a friend where I was asking for some recommendations on a PR expert,” explains Foremost Media CEO Jon Ballard. “I would have bet the house that the names she returned would have been from Chicago or Madison, but to my surprise she mentioned several freelancers right here in the area that I was not aware of. It really got me thinking that we have some amazing talent here in our hometown and it would be beneficial to all of us to get to know each other a little and collaborate.”
Oakleigh Ryan, Principal at Whiton House — a boutique management consultancy and engagement institute in Janesville that works with local businesses to assist with strategic development opportunities — thinks the conference is exactly what the community needs.
“Doing what you love is one thing; doing that as part of a broader community of experts creates something bigger,” she says. “It is time Janesville had this community.”
The event is scheduled for March 1st from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Foremost Media office in the Gray Goose building, 207 N. Academy St. Suite #200 in Janesville. Attendees will be able to network with peers and engage in group discussions. Additionally, students from the Elevate program at Craig High School will be showing the third floor of the Gray Goose, where they are participating in research for a new business hub center which will have a new coworking space geared toward Janesville area freelancers. They will be offering an overview of the project and soliciting feedback as well as tours of the proposed space and drawings of the proposed build out.
