15 Minutes Away From Better Local Search Visibility

I developed this series of blog posts because I want to help small businesses get more from their website in 15 minutes a month or less of work. If you're like most small business owners, including myself, it can be very difficult to work on your business vs. in your business, but I urge you to consider spending a few minutes each month implementing these tips as they can have a big impact on your business.

So here is this months tip:

Claim Your Google My Business Listing

Google makes it pretty easy to claim and verify your listing. To get started visit: https://www.google.com/business. Make sure you complete the phone or postcard verification process as well.

You're on a roll... don't stop now.

Many local businesses just claim their GMB listing and forget about it. complete all the information Google asks for. Even the part about public parking etc. The more complete your listing the better you often do in local search. Upload your logo and some pictures from your business as well.

It's important. Take 15 minutes and get it done.

*Note, if you have worked with Foremost Media in the past on a local SEO plan we may have already done this for you.

Why Is The Google My Business Listing Important?

If you don't claim it a competitor or the public could make changes to it. Google encourages suggestions on local businesses from the public. A competitor could suggest that you are closed and if you don't approve or deny that suggestion, Google will show you as closed when someone searches for your business.

You will show up better in local searches. Getting on Google My Business can increase your chances of showing up in Google’s Local Pack, Local Finder, Google Maps, and organic rankings in general.

Much of the info on this listing is probably wrong. If you have been in business for a while, you probably have a GMB listing whether you set it up or not. Google mines this data from other sources and it is often wrong. You may be missing phone calls already and don't even know it.
