Looking to get the cheapest website you can? This blog will help you pay as little as possible for a website from a web development company.
The only thing you have to do is keep searching for a company to perform the work at a lower cost. That’s it! There is always someone willing to do a job for less money. If you search long enough, you will eventually find the lowest price company (more likely a single person) available!
What’s the catch?
The catch is that you will most likely end up getting what you paid for in terms of quality, and it will probably end up costing you more when you factor in lost revenue and the investment of your time.
Despite how it looks against the budget, cheaper is not always better. I was recently speaking with a new client of ours who is currently redesigning their website for third time in less than two years (first time with us). We provided this client with a proposal for the initial site redesign, but we lost on the project because another company was approximately $400 cheaper. The other web development company touted its low cost services as efficiency and expertise, but the reality is they cut corners in development and used a cookie cutter approach on the client’s website design. The exact opposite of what they needed! Of course, any time you can save $400 on anything it is appealing, however, they did not end up saving $400 at all. In fact, the total cost to the company (not including wasted time or lost revenue) was thousands of dollars more considering they ended up paying for two additional site redesigns!
The primary issue is most people do not realize it is incredibly difficult to compare web development companies on a one-to-one basis. To help, we created a free checklist that helps you ask the right questions.
Redesigning or creating a new website for your company is an investment. Instead of focusing purely on the price tag, you should focus on the return you can expect from the investment, and finding a partner who will help you to maximize your return, while providing you with a level of support that exceeds your expectations.
Your potential customers are using your website to not only obtain information, but also form opinions about your company. A clunky website that doesn’t function properly or has an outdated/amateurish look and feel is a direct reflection on your company.
Does that mean the most expensive proposal is the best?
No! Before working at Foremost Media, I was involved with procuring website proposals for a variety of clients and industries. I can tell you from experience that the variances in pricing on proposals for the same scope of work was frustratingly shocking. Many web development firms will use pricing as a vain attempt at being considered prestigious in the eyes of their potential clients by employing minimum pricing, regardless of the project scope. This minimum fee has little to do with the quality of their work and more with their desire to work with companies that have a large budget they can siphon off of to line their own pockets. That is not what you want in a partner. A good web development company should be more focused on how they can help you than how much you are willing to pay them. Of course, there will be costs associated with the development and online marketing aspects you require, but these should be tailored to your specific needs and goals. This generally requires thorough conversations to ensure the web development company is not making any assumptions.
Bottom line: cheaper is not always better. Make sure you work with a web design company that will meet your specific needs. If your company is looking for a partner to help you redesign your website at a reasonable price that is tailored to your individual requirements, then give us a call. We are passionate about web design and online marketing and will enjoy talking with you!
